Bill Kristol had an interesting piece regarding the importance of the Iraqi war as a component of the War on Terror.
Re-The War Presidency
Bill…(if I may be so informal), is feeling something akin to what many war supporters have felt for years…that Bush really doesn't take anything seriously, once Bush says something he sincerely believes it to be done, if not now then soon. And then it leaves his reality.
Bush has been saying that
Where is the outrage at the incompetent generals?
Where is the outrage at the incompetent Rumsfeld? Wolfowitz?
Where is the outrage at the lack of security on the airport road?
If it's really so important why is the country involved?
What about war bonds? They raised money, but more importantly they served to unite the conscience of the country. "We bought war bonds to win the war"
If it's really so important why is the war just a string of string of DoD releases reporting the latest US soldier dying from another, newly improved IED? The artillery shells for such devices could have been secured by the none existent insurgents when Rumsfeld told us that freedom is messy.
